More and more couples are turning to Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for help with fertility. Many IVF clinics have acupuncture treatment available on their own premises, and if not they will frequently recommend that women who are going through IVF also seek out an acupuncturist to help them through the whole process.
"I was undergoing my first IVF cycle at the age of 39 and so it was therefore very important to me that I do everything possible to ensure that the procedure was successful.
I had read a lot of articles that highlighted how acupuncture could raise the success rate of IVF treatment and decided to give it a go. Stacey was recommended to me by a number of acquaintances who had visited her for acupuncture treatment for various symptoms.
I found Stacey to be very knowledgeable and up to date with all aspects of fertility treatment and especially about the acupuncture protocols that support the embryo transfer process. I visited Stacey for a few sessions to relax and support me through the initial stages of my IVF cycle when I was administering the necessary drugs and then before the transfer and immediately afterwards.
All aspects of acupuncture treatment were very professionally carried out in a sympathetic and supportive manner. Most importantly they proved to be successful as I am please to report that I am now the mother of a delightful baby boy. I am convinced that the treatment I received from Stacey was a major contributory factor in the success of my IVF treatment and I would recommend her services to anyone."
As you can imagine this can be a very stressful time, and of course stress can interfere with the success of the treatment, so having regular acupuncture treatments in the weeks before and then during your IVF cycle can really help, for example with improving your sleep patterns.
Research has shown that stimulating particular acupuncture points just before and just after the embryo transfer can significantly improve the success of implantation. (Paulus et al 2002) These treatments also help you to stay relaxed on your big day.
Some women choose to have a course of acupuncture and/or Chinese Herbal Medicine treatment for a few months before they go into their IVF cycle. This gives us the opportunity to regulate the cycle, and treat any imbalances that we identify. In Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture we analyse the menstrual cycle according to signs and symptoms such as clotting in the menstrual blood, painful periods, scanty periods (womb lining too thin) , painful ovulation, pre menstrual syptoms, post menstrual symptoms, as well as the overall health of the patient, for example looking at digestion and sleep patterns. We also look at BBT charts (base body temperature). From all this information we can identify underlying factors that could be interfering with conception and treat accordingly, so that when you start the IVF treatment you are in tip top form.
For Men: herbal medicines taken over a 12 weeks course can improve sperm count and quality.
For Women: Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help to resolve many conditions that could be interfering with fertility, such as polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, and so on. Also very helpful for unexplained infertility, where there may be many minor factors that are not quite right, and treatment brings the body more into balance so that a successful pregnancy is achieved. If you a wondering if this treatment is right for you then please phone me to discuss your situation.
